Welcome to Uppsala!
And to it’s student life! Here you find information about nations, the welcome week, a DIY walking tour and how to get started in Uppsala!
What's a nation?
A nation is a sort of very old student association that has a house, a pub, activities and lots of fun. They are for students, by students and are therefore entirely student-run.
Why join a nation?
There are many reasons to join a nation. One is to get your nation card, which you need in order to enter all nation pubs, clubs, and other events. The nations are also a great place to…
MEET NEW PEOPLE
Nations are the perfect place to make life-long friends. With events, clubs, sports, pubs, clubs and so much more the student nations are the essence and hub of student life in Uppsala.
ENJOY STUDENT LIFE
Uppsala University was founded in 1477 and the nations were founded in the 1600s, which means that we have a rich history of traditions, and lots of them.
EXPERIENCE SWEDEN
Swedes are known for being a bit reserved, so the nations are the perfect ice-breaker for meeting Swedes and making Swedish friends (and practicing your Swedish!).
GOTLANDS NATION
Gotlands Nation, founded in 1681, is the youngest nation in Uppsala, and is most known for their lammskallegasque, where each guest is served a half lamb skull. The nation is known for being small and quirky, and “on the right side of the river.”
GÄSTRIKE-HÄLSINGE NATION (GH)
GH nation is centered around food and drink. We are open 360 days of the year and here there is always something for you. As a medium large nation, GH is a place where it is easy to feel welcome.
GÖTEBORGS NATION
Göteborgs nation is Uppsala’s smallest nation, with around 500 members. The nation was founded in 1667 and oriented itself mostly towards students from Gothenburg, Bohus county, and Halland, but today is open to students from the whole country (and the whole world!).
KALMAR NATION
Kalmar nation is Uppsala’s most musical nation. The nation offers live events, open-mic nights and nightclubs. Do you want to perform or just enjoy the music, then this nation is for you!
NORRLANDS NATION
Welcome to the world’s biggest student nation! Thanks to our size and our broad range of activities, here there is something for everyone. There is something going on all the time, and we are open more than we are closed.
SMÅLANDS NATION
Smålands nation is a smaller nation, which we only see as an advantage. The nation is like a second living room where your best friends hang out. Want a coffee? We’ve got it! Want a job? We’ve got it!
STOCKHOLMS NATION
Stockholms Nation was founded in 1649 and has garnished a lot of students' study time ever since. Today, the nation is known for its legendary Thursday club and the annual Marsspex, but at the nation there is something for everyone.
SÖDERMANLAND-NERIKES NATION (SNERKIS)
At Snerikes there is almost always life and movement. There’s dancing, singing, theatre, gasques being prepared and first and foremost taking it easy and getting to know one another. Everything, in our own comfortable living room.
UPLANDS NATION
At Uplands, the open and welcoming nation, you can experience real student traditions like gasques and have a pleasant afternoon with a coffee at the study café or a burger at Svantes.
VÄRMLANDS NATION
Welcome to the nation where anything is possible. As a member of Värmlands nation you get, amongst other things, discounts on several of the nation’s activities and even priority to several of the nation’s events.
VÄSTGÖTA NATION (VG)
Uppsala’s oldest nation house houses one of Uppsala’s oldest nations. Here you find a rich cultural life, a welcoming atmosphere and many opportunities to enjoy good food and drink.
VÄSTMANLANDS-DALA NATION (V-DALA)
V-Dala nation is one of the biggest in town. We offer scholarships, clubs and gasques, a library and associations within our white Aalto-castle. Naturally, also a lot of housing. At V-Dala there is something for everyone.
ÖSTGÖTA NATION (ÖG)
Östgöta nation is your second living room during your studies. Here you can sit and study, drink coffee, go clubbing, sing in a choir, play boardgames, work in the pub, seek scholarships and much more.
