Back in the olden days, when nation membership was mandatory, Gotlands nation was the nation designated for students from outside Sweden. Times change, and now international students can join any nation, but Gotlands still is a nation that not only welcomes international students, but encourages them to become an active part of it.
In the Spring of 2019 we had a fully international (non-Swedish) curatorship, as well as functionaries from all around the planet.
As one of the three smallest nations in Uppsala every member and functionary can dedicate more time to the new people and really get to know them and spend time with each other. This also gives a lot of room for initiatives from the members themselves. We have had a Japanese fika organized by Japanese students, an international pot luck with foods from many different countries, amongst many other quirks and events.
Gotlands nation is also very connected to the island itself and we organize events which show its very particular culture, like playing pärk, throwing varpa and Gotlandic caber tossing, which are different Gotlandic sports.
Welcome to the nation on the right side of the river!
