Hiking in Sweden: Tiveden
One of the most reason hikes I’ve been on that was more then a day hike was in Tiveden. It’s located to the west of Vättern with Örebro being the biggest city to the north of the National park. To get there from Uppsala it’s recommended to have a car and the journey would take 3-4 hours to get there. In Tiveden there are many different path available and several these are suited for all ages.
Staying in Tiveden can be done by camping at some of the camps sites, or the resorts available around Tiveden such as Tivedstorp, Ösjönäs or Aspa Herrgård.
Upon my visit there we stayed at Tivedstorp and Ösjönäs where both locations provided us with the provisions for the duration of our stay which made the entire excursion easy and enjoyable.
The multitude of walks around in Tiveden range from full day walks to casual strolls around the local lake, Stora Trehörningen.
On the northern side of Stora Trehörningen there is the possibility to walk in an old forested area which reminds one of an ancient untouched world with old fallen trees covered in moss called Tärnekullerundan, a trip of 1.3km. Or a trip to the Vitsand caves (Literally: white sand caves) and swimming from the easily accessible Vitsand beach. A total hike around the lake accounts for a full 9.5km and makes further for a great day hike.
A full days walk could be from the Ösjönäs up through Tivedens national park, it will take you up through several of the smaller lakes in the area and either out onto the Bergslagsleden or through smaller paths passing by the massive boulder of Junker Jägare.
Staying in Tiveden can easily provide days of hiking for the experience hiker as well as versatile activities outside of the hiking available on the lake by the Ösjönäs resort such as kayaking, sauna and more.
I would recommend staying for 2-4 days to get a full experience from the trip without feeling as though it has been rushed through or like something was missed depending upon ones expectations and activity wishes.
